Day 23-24

Day 23: Lairg-Bettyhill

“I can see clearly now ……”

DIY breakfast and packed lunch with time to repair white goods. Delayed start due to heavy rain which miraculously disappeared around our revised departure time.

Used the local cycle pump station to get our cycles ready for the day ahead.

Set off through absolutely stunning countryside. Stopped at the Crask Inn owned by the Episcopal church. Like something out of a storybook and travelling back in time. Really cosy with peat fire. We had to travel the length of the country to finally have our long awaited cream scones. We’d been expecting them in Cornwall or Devon!

A long wait indeed!! 😋

Past Altnaharra and along the most beautiful route with sheep trials underway. Jaw dropping scenery all the way to Bettyhill ….. the north coast of Scotland at last!!

Supportive messages received from cycling celebrities, as we reached the final stage of our trip.Amazing and such a boost!

Fabulous dual aspect room in Bettyhill hotel. Dinner together topped off one of the most memorable days of the whole trip.

Day 24: Bettyhill- Thurso

“Happy “

Relaxing later breakfast overlooking the Atlantic. Chinese pump put into action at last. Did us proud today.

Up and down for miles and miles with views of Orkney only six miles off the coastline. Very clear views over blue sea and sky.

Another area of huge highland clearances of people replaced by sheep.

Carry out coffee where we watched the speed cops entertaining little children who were having a ball letting of sirens etc. Apparently the North Coast 500 route is very popular with speed merchants.

Then more hills, wind, sun and stunning views. Late picnic in a field…. think the babybells are breeding! Maybe the caramel wafers too!!

Lovely run into Thurso despite the poor road conditions.
