Day 5-6

Day 5: Thorverton to Bridgewater

A very early start to beat the forecasted torrential rain and thunderstorms!

Route better with hills early in the day when we have more energy. Bone shaker surface though along the canal requiring huge amount of concentration to avoid falling in. Very narrow path in places. Couldn’t complain though as we saw a bright yellow circle in the sky ….. something we hadn’t seen much of since the first couple of day. Hurrah! 🌞

No cream teas, no coffee shops, and no ice cream but we arrived at our destination dry!

Quote of the day

Day 6: Bridgewater to Bristol

September 6 was a special day for me, as it would have been my Dad’s 90th Birthday. To mark the day, Chris brought Ollie to meet us at our coffee stop. Great to see them both. Another treat was that we offloaded our panniers into the van. What a relief to go up those hills with a lighter bike! 😅

We stopped for lunch at the enormous Cadbury Garden Centre outside Bristol. Once we had found Lewis (lost amongst the garden scarecrows which included Boris!) we rode into Bristol with Ollie leading the way. I think he was impressed with my hill climbing skills despite me arriving at the top of a hill not able to speak much! A family facetime with Edward and Dervla in Edinburgh and Ollie and Marie, was followed by a fabulous tapas celebration meal.

Sun shone. Fabulous day. 💕
